In publishing the general standard is third on signing, third on publication, and a third on sales...which means that final third depends on ginormous sales to cover the contract, printing & distribution, publicity, and overhead. And IIRC the agent takes his points from the first payment.
Keep in mind that the Duke and Duchess of Earl hired Nine, count em, 9 high priced publicists...that's a sizeable 7 figure payroll...stupid clot has already spent most of that contract.
