Of all the vacation spots folks can go to, why is it that Cancun seems to be where so many non-Mexican vacationers get killed?

In the link below, notice that among cities with the top homicide rates, Mexico has 11 of the top 25 cities, and 18 of the top 50.

Gringos killed in Mexico? I’ve been to Cancun several times and in 1987 we heard ambulances arrive outside the motel but we never heard any sirens when they left.

Curious, I asked the desk clerk the next morning what happened. He said a drunk college kid fell off the balcony and killed himself. That’s why the ambulances were not in a hurry. He said it happens all the time and the locals are careful to keep it out of the newspapers.

I went back in the 1990s and never had any problems. But after all the stories I’ve heard since then I will never return.

It's interesting that the list of cities with the highest murder rates are all primarily inhabited by non-Whites, non-Orientals.

Hmmm. Somebody studying genetics might have a good topic for a research paper.

Of course we all really know why the murder rate in Caracas is so high—some good ol' boy somewhere in Tennessee has a Confederate flag decal on his truck, and there's a statue of Robert E. Lee in the park. That's the ticket.
