I’m not going to hate on these people just because they try to hold their peace. It has to be a hard choice for many.
All these things add up. If someone doesn’t stand up for what is right early on, it’s a lot easier to stay afraid and cowardly when it’s really down and dirty. And there is the miserable examples they sit. That is how we have fallen, so far, and so fast.
