Since moving to Kentucky, I tell people that they don’t use radar cops here to keep people’s speed down. They use deer.
We’ve hit four deer. Well, one hit us. A big buck ran into the side of my wife’s car and damaged every single body panel as it spun against the car. I was following her and got to watch the whole thing.
A few days ago, I was in a rural area and stopped for a nice 6 point buck crossing the road. Oncoming guy didn’t stop, just slowed, and I think lightly hit one of the 3-4 more that were behind the 6-point. Didn’t knock the deer down, didn’t appear to damage the car, but I’m pretty sure he tapped one.
The lesson: Just because you’ve seen one, don’t expect you’ve seen them all, stay cautious, keep looking.
