I don't do fad anything. I try to make rational decisions based on studies about nutrition, weight loss, aging, and exercise. I know that independent scientific studies don't tell us everything, but taken as a whole there are general conclusions to be drawn that are useful for most men.
Diet is important - the more plant foods, the better - I'm really trying to include more fruit and veg onto my plate. Cardio is important for heart health - but that doesn't have to mean marathons. Even walking is a good activity to start with. Weight training is vital for men our age, for a lot of reasons. Again, we don't have to train like an Olympian, but we need to do something to protect bone density and slow down the natural loss of muscle as we age. Lifting increases testosterone levels, even in older men. It makes your sticker peck out.
I'm doing more for my health now than I have since I was 40.
“Weight training is vital for men our age”
Far too many think that is BS.
They say it “doesn’t work” because they are not willing to DO the work.
Fad diets are the craze now. That’s easier psychologically and emotionally.
While their muscles waste away and their metabolism slows to the point they gain weight on 1500 calories per day.
While it’s been known for centuries, if not millennia, that resistance training is the key to health and longevity.
Resistance training can be painful. It’s hard.
So the pussies won’t do it.
