Really, then why don’t you show me what I’m missing here

.....the article is written by a moron. Most soccer tournaments, as is here in the Olympics, are not single elimination, but round robins, two losses out of three and the team is gone. A tie will count as a loss if another team has a better winning record in the qualifying rounds. IIRC, if this team loses another game, they will be out. If they tie, they play again until they lose.

And i could be a totally incorrect soccer dad here. This demonstrates how poorly written the article was to begin with. And a point that we can all agree upon, is that “these GIRLS failed to score a goal.”

Not necessarily. For example, in the just completed Euro 2020, Denmark lost their first two games in the group stages, but still went through all the way to the semi finals where they lost to England.

A tie is never counted as a loss or a win. If 2 teams end up with exactly the same points in the group stages, goal differences and the best loser rules come into play.
