50-year war on drugs imprisoned millions of black Americans

… Fifty years ago this summer, President Richard Nixon declared a war on drugs. Today, with the U.S. mired in a deadly opioid epidemic that did not abate during the coronavirus pandemic’s worst days, it is questionable whether anyone won the war.

Yet the loser is clear: (b)lack and Latino Americans, their families and their communities. A key weapon of the war was the imposition of mandatory minimums in prison sentencing. Decades later those harsh penalties at the federal level and the accompanying changes at the state level led to an increase in the prison industrial complex that saw millions of people, primarily of color, locked up and shut out of the American dream. The racial disparities reveal the uneven toll of the war on drugs. Following the passage of stiffer penalties for crack cocaine and other drugs, the (b)lack incarceration rate in America exploded from about 600 per 100,000 people in 1970 to 1,808 in 2000. In the same timespan, the rate for the Latino population grew from 208 per 100,000 people to 615, while the white incarceration rate grew from 103 per 100,000 people to 242. …

So is he asserting that the only thing blacks are capable of is drug dealing?

Or conversely...white people dont deal drugs?

Nope it’s just more social justice racial equity agitprop...demanding that correlation equals causality...

The use of the term “racial over representation” in prisoner populations implies there should be fewer black prisoners based on percentage of population...therefore the system is racist....

IE: the fallacious argument “appeal to emotion”...the fact a higher percentage of blacks percapita are incarcerated proves the justice system is inherently racist and is unfair....

Vs the very logical conclusion that blacks commit more crimes percapita.

I reject the argument outright.....its pure bullshit...the drive for racial equity doesn’t mean equality...it means racial preference...racial superiority...in essence they are arguing that blacks shouldnt be responsible for their own actions...that black crime is whitey’s fault ..and should be excused...remember...looting is a form of reparations...riot is the voice of the unheard...arson is peaceful protest....

Much like their argument that the educational system is racist because the higher discipline rates of black and latino students...

Again...occams razor applies...

Blacks and Latino students are disciplined are a higher rate because they BREAK THE RULES at a higher rate...
