The formerly red county banned an America First rally and gave a very twisted reason for doing so.
Anaheim, California, home to Disneyland, has an ugly, fantasy view of the First Amendment. How else can one explain why Anaheim, after boasting about its respect for free speech, canceled an America First rally at which Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz were appearing because of the town’s “duty” to oppose speech it doesn’t like?
To date, Southern California has been hostile to America First. On July 9, an American First rally set for an event center in Laguna Hills, at which Gaetz and Greene were to appear, had been canceled. The news reported that the hotel’s general manager wanted to avoid any controversies:
A Laguna Hills event center canceled plans to host an “America First” rally on July 17 after learning the speakers were slated to be two of the most controversial Republicans in Congress: Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
“We just want to stay clear of that,” Javad Mirtavoosi, general manager of Pacific Hills Banquet & Event Center, said by phone Friday.

Mirtavoosi said that when the center booked the event they just expected a “gathering.”
“As soon as we found out who the speakers were we immediately canceled it,” Mirtavoosi said.

Coastal CA has gone full third world—the very rich rule everyone else with an iron fist—there is no free speech in the third world.

You know if someone wants to do a rally called “F@CK AMERICA” the city of Anaheim would roll out the red carpet and give them the keys to the city.
They would probably make a mandatory attendance requirement for it.

just so everyone knows....it used to be black letter constitutional law, that any governmental branch or subdivision, while they can regulate speech with regards to time/manner/place and that sort of thing, and they can even have a permitting process for things like parades and organized protests, they cannot, under any circumstances, regulate speech or assembly based upon content.
that notion is so quaint now.....so quaint, it is actually radical and revolutionary.
Anaheim is just following the lead of the only reason for its existence, Disneyland.
the other thing that was interesting about the first amendment, was that we all pretty well understood, at least implicitly, that in the shorter term free speech is obviously divisive, and anti-unifying. All of this talk about inclusion and unifying around our shared values is precisely the opposite of the first amendment....
The deeper irony is that in the longer term, free speech is actually unifying because we can (and should) share the value of free speech itself, and, we can live with the hope that out of the free expression of many points of view, including especially erroneous points of view, a sort of consensus will emerge....by allowing the expression of erroneous points of view, you are essentially inviting others either to 1) correct them, or 2) ignore them. Both of these responses have net positive social results.
But by forbidding bad speech, you are essentially empowering it, forcing it underground, giving it the allure of mystery and forbidden fruit, and sowing social unrest/balkanization.
(Of course in the context of this story, the views that have been canceled were not bad, they were good....just lamenting the utter loss of the spirit and letter of the first amendment)

Democrats are perfectly consistent on “free speech.” Everyone is free to parrot the party line. Anything at variance with the party line is hate speech and should be banned. Got it?
