I like to water the potato in the evening making sure it's bed is warm but not too moist. In the morning the potato must be protected from any rough winds that might disturb it.
If you wish, at mid-day, you may try to speak to the potato, in soft comforting tones only, but if it does reply it won't make any sense to you.
Why? Well, because it's a potato of course.
