Re: Wooden bomb...

Looks like it was an actual occurrence. Even had a book written about it and others like it.

At the link is a pic of the infamous “Toilet Bomb”...

(snip) To demonstrate this, they cite the well-documented instance of the Skyraider Toilet Bomb. In October 1965, Commander Clarence W. Stoddard, Jr., Executive Officer of VA-25 “Fist of the Fleet”, flying an A-1H Skyraider, nicknamed “Paper Tiger II” from Carrier Air Wing Two aboard USS Midway carried a special bomb to the North Vietnamese in commemoration of the 6-millionth pound of ordnance dropped.

This bomb was unique because of the type... it was a toilet! The toilet was a damaged unit, which was going to be thrown overboard. A squadron plane captain rescued it and the ordnance crew made a rack, tail fins and nose fuse for it. Air Wing Two deck handlers maintained a position to block the view of the air boss and the Captain while the aircraft was taxiing forward. Just as it was being shot off the perpetrators got a message from the bridge, “What the hell was on 572’s right wing?” There were many jokes with air intelligence about germ warfare, but the aircraft was allowed to continue, drop its real ordnance as well as its bit of toilet humour. The story of the flight was celebrated over the years in stories, paintings and models.

(Holy crap! What are they dropping on us now?)

RE: “Toilet Bomb”

When our oldest, he’s 33 now, was a senior in high school, he and his buddies found a discarded toilet on the side of the road. They transported it in the back of a pickup truck, belonging to one of them, backed up to the school’s entrance and set it at the front doors - all in the middle of the night. However, the school’s camera(s) caught the vehicle and license plate, and each one in their circle of friends was interrogated the next day by administration. As I recall, the assistant principal had a difficult time hiding his amusement. Fortunately, the only punishment was verbal admonishment and a written apology... Hubby and I always told them, “Have fun. Be safe. Don’t be stupid.” Oh, well. 😁😂😁
