Arkansas (along with Missouri, Louisiana and a few others) is right on the front line of this wave - likely to be a bellwether for how it will play out Nationally.
There is still time for at risk people to get vaccine protection - significant immunity improvement starts a week after the first shot. But the Delta wave is here, and we will likely see cases rise rapidly for a month or two.
The estimate is half the volume of the Winter wave, in a more compressed timeframe, with lower severity and mortality rates. That will vary locally, based on existing immunity levels.
It’s annoying
I have relatives in MO so I pay attention to the numbers. They have had an uptick in cases for almost three weeks. Deaths are around 2 to 6 a day - so still not much to talk about. The people getting Delta around the country are the young-unvaxxed (and should stay unvaxxed according me, as their innate immune system will only get stronger if they get this less virulent strain).
More herd immunity will follow.
