[[[[I don’t even know anyone who died of the bug.]]]]

My 73 year old neighbor who was trim and in good health. The same for a 72 year old friend who lasted 3 days. 34 year old cousin of another neighbor. Mom of my tenant’s girlfriend 54 who lasted a couple months and finally succumbed. She was heavy though. All were just before vaccines were widely available.

A doctor told me the single biggest comorbidity factor she has seen in patient deaths is obesity in various degrees. She saw patients with other health problems but not obese pull through with very little trouble.

I’m thinking pre-diabetes and diabetes is the big factor.

My wife is an ER doc and has said the same things. Diabetes is definitely a significant risk factor. This is one reason that the black community has been hit so heavily. Also, obesity - which isn’t unrelated to diabetes - is another big driver. If you’re over 60, hypertensive, obese and diabetic (which are three comorbidities that are frequently present in the same patient) and you get COVID, expect a not great outcome and potentially the worst outcome.

But, we’ve known this from very early on. What REALLY aggravates me is that these are the people who should have been isolating, not twentysomethings and children in perfect health. The virus is bad. The mismanagement was worse and perhaps more destructive in the long run.
