"Uh...sure it was"

Read my post #12. With you being a former Marine I would think that you would know more about how the government works to ovoid constitutional oversight and have corporations do their dirty work.

Does the US military use contractors instead of actual marines and soldiers because regular military are pussies or do they do it to perform acts that the military will not?

I await your reply with baited breath.

Starting in the early 70’s the federal government unions, and the civilian unions, had the congress and DOD eliminate soldiers, marines and sailors from performing most of the maintenance jobs on the bases. These jobs were things like landscape maintenance, dining room jobs, some of the cooking jobs, base security officers, (not all but a large percent), carpentry jobs, plumbing jobs, IT jobs etc.

For the navy that meant that a lot of the traditional shore duty billets were no longer available and thus either makeshift shore duty or longer sea duty. As an example, a navy Hull Tech., (which did metal work, welding etc.), were assigned shore duty billets at the transit personnel units and other jobs outside of their navy skill set while civilians were hired to do the welding/fabrication/maintenance jobs on the base.

Base electrical work is not done by navy ET’s or EM’s. Those are all civilian jobs. Base dining rooms are not staffed by junior sailors, airmen, soldiers or marines, civilians have those jobs on most large bases and some smaller bases. You will not see a service member as a sales clerk, stocker or janitor in the base stores, (commissary, exchange, base liquor store or even the mini shops), those are all civilian positions.
