The Greek docs observed that the vibrations allowed pus to drain from wounds more freely (yuck) while also healing the wounds faster.

Maggots (fly larvae) have also been used to eat away dead tissue, promoting healing. Double yuck!

Yes double yuck, but the maggots kept the wound from becoming infected and indeed did help with the healing.
