In 73-4 I could not believe my platoon leaders never taught squad and platoon tactics. Frankly, my Montagnards in Vietnam 68-69 were much better then those US troops in 73-74. I had a company full of screw ups. The troops invading Iraq were not trained properly.

Exactly this. If I were them looking for a time of weakness in this country so they could attack on multiple fronts, now would be the time. Truly sad times
