Well I’d say Long fancied himself more a caudillo in the making ... .....I also think he did indeed have an affinity for the poor in spite of his appetite for power. I duck hunted with his son Russell both at Matthews Brake in the Mississippi delta and near Lake Charles ....Russell was pretty much typical southern democrat of his era....conservative socially and new deal about cash policies and evolving with the wind segregationist and machine politic oriented ....the Longs controlled Louisiana politics way beyond Kingfish assasination but Russell was no fascist .......Russell was polite and affable to be honest....not a great caller but decent wing shooter ......

More importantly was Edwin Edwards not a stud....hot wyfe and a kid at like 84....a man after my own heart...incredible....she is fine as frogs hair

Unfortunately, as a radical leftist, Huey didn’t know how to create wealth beyond stealing it from the rich. No different than today’s Demonrats. His son, fortunately for him, didn’t possess his father’s megalomaniacal tendencies and was more mainstream a pol, and obviously proved supple enough to last 4 decades in the Senate.

As for Fast Eddie, you might recall he gave his first wife, Elaine, (the then-first lady) the consolation prize of Huey’s old Senate seat after Allen Ellender died in 1972. She passed away in 2018.

I was surprised to see his third wife is younger than myself. I can understand wanting to prove your virility, but I feel a bit badly for his son, Eli, who turns just 8 on August 1st and will not have his dad during his key years. A bit selfish on dad’s part. :-(
