The Texas legislature began an overtime special session this week to address a slate of priority issues outlined by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, including a renewed effort to address "election integrity." On Saturday, both chambers will hold overlapping hearings with testimony regarding new bills from the House and Senate that seek to overhaul the state's voting and election practices.
During a press conference Thursday, Texas state Rep. Armando Walle said "every option is on the table" for Democrats to mobilize against the GOP-backed special session agenda, which includes a host of items that echo emerging national culture wars. Walle added that his fellow party members are "going to use every parliamentary means to stop these bills," but did not follow up with examples of any potential actions.

Have the rats scurried away yet?
The new laws are to prevent and dissuade minorities from voting. Some of them are similar to poll taxes. For example, one law requires that before blacks are given a ballot, they must go to the nearest cotton field and pick not less than two bales of cotton. That is why Democrats oppose these new election laws! (/Democrat)
Not yet time to vote. Perhaps they will go to Hati
And the Democrats will probably do just what they do when faced with a battle ... turn and run ... like they did during the Viet Nam war ... run to Canada.
We should be so very fortunate that they leave. Don’t hold your breath on that happening though.
The Sergeant at Arms just needs to be ready to use the troopers to go get the rats when they flee to deny a quorum, which of course if what they’re going to do. And the GOP needs to be ready to press the PR campaign to mock them when they’re hiding out in hotels just over the state line
It’s been full on war with these people since November 3
WAR.
No of course they like to call anytime we get together as patriots and have a good time and insurrection but we need to start thinking about how we can actually defeat this enemy, once and for all
And make no mistake about it ; the Democrats are the enemy
They hate this country they hate God they hate freedom and liberty and they want to destroy all three
Amen brother .
The taxpayers are footing the bill for a special session for something that should have been done on day one.
Any of the "modern" technology is fraught with opportunities to sneak fraudulent votes past honest but technology-challenged overseers. NO mail-in ballots. Early voting at the central election headquarter for clerks, inspectors, and other officials whose election-day time should be dedicated to oversight duties only.
If a few people cannot vote due to exingencies (nursing home patients, traveling on business, ill health, lack of transportation, etc., well so what?
These absences for one cycle will not make that much difference. Early and/or mail-in ballots only make this more convenient for couch potatoes that are too lazy and unmotivated to take the election seriously and make every effort to show up and be counted.
We need to keep this process very, very simple, as it was in the beginning of the country's use of it to get representatives. The main nut of this is the chiuce of local elected officials that one can hold personally accountable, in my estimate.
Times have changed drastically since this nation was formed. It
was a white male dominated society and not very mobile. Today
is very different.
Wrong!
They have enacted laws that try to stop massive ballot fraud and vote stealing. You need to get your facts right.
There was far more mobility and movement between states when the country was founded than there is now. Most current states had not even been created then.
Post armed cops at all the exits to ensure Democrats can’t run away again.
