I don’t doubt you or your friends, but Chinese track family relationships far more than we do. One of the first things they do when meeting another Chinese is establish what if any family ties they share.

That is an Asian thing... The Koreans also do that... My sons inlaws were very disterbed that my DIL dated non Korean men.. They love the kids, but it is still troublesome to them that they have “mixed” grandchildren

Of course they know who they are related to, but the Maryland school districts don’t know, don’t care.
