Bikini introduced

On July 5, 1946, French designer Louis Réard unveils a daring two-piece swimsuit at the Piscine Molitor, a popular swimming pool in Paris. Parisian showgirl Micheline Bernardini modeled the new fashion, which Réard dubbed “bikini,” inspired by a news-making U.S. atomic test that took place off the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean earlier that week.

European women first began wearing two-piece bathing suits that consisted of a halter top and shorts in the 1930s, but only a sliver of the midriff was revealed and the navel was vigilantly covered. In the United States, the modest two-piece made its appearance during World War II, when wartime rationing of fabric saw the removal of the skirt panel and other superfluous material. Meanwhile, in Europe, fortified coastlines and Allied invasions curtailed beach life during the war, and swimsuit development, like everything else non-military, came to a standstill.

No tats, no piercings, no purple hair, no angry feminist scowl.

My wife and I visited Nice, France around summer 1982. The topless old women on the beach looked like beached whales with severely tanned leather skin.

Egads…here I am nearly 40 years later and I still have that sight in my mind’s eye.

Map.

So cartography doesn’t recapitulate feminist attacks on our alleged misogyny as ontogeny doesn’t really recapitulate phylogeny?

Ernst Haeckel in 1866 proposed that the gill slits and other vestigial developments in a growing animal or human proved evolution. Since he was wrong, creationists used the argument that since he was wrong, evolution may be wrong, too.

In real life, my friend and coworker in the 1970s said her female friend had gill slits behind her ears. Doctor verified it. Their depth ended just below the surface but were where an amphibian ancestor would have had real working ones.

The strongly outspoken political conservative and an author I much admire, Father Robert Spitzer said those who say abortion doesn’t kill a baby if early are proven wrong by the latest research which shows the earliest zygote produced has all the dna needed for the entire life pattern of development of a human through old age. Once this was not known and was disputed. A zygote becomes an embryo.

Photo was taken at the all female “Obliterate Men” annual conference of the Society to Cutup Men founded by Valerie Solanas (who shot Andy Warhol in 1968 repeatedly in a freight elevator and nearly killed him). Big turnout again.
Solanas went to prison for three years only. Bestselling book SCUM Manifesto against men.

Apparently, bikini-like fashions existed in pre-history:

and even long, long ago, in a galaxy far away:

The short-lived Middleman made fun of that scene.

Both guys were in wet suits and the lady was in a similar bikini.
