I believe the technology used to film the shots could not keep up with reality. In both speed and brightness, the film tech failed and what is left is rainbows. :/

Was recently reading a three book set on the Pacific war.
Read for the first time that the Japanese navy used various color dyes to spot impact splash of their gunnery.
Reminded me of Oddball in Kelly's Heros and the paint cannon shells.
