He had his Wheaties!!
It is impossible to govern the world without God. It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits and humbly implore his protection and favor.
George Washington
I see confusing sources about where Samuel Whitmore came from, some say he was born in England in 1695 and came over in the 1740s as a middle-aged dragoon officer in the British Army, other sources say he was born in New England.
Wherever he was from he was bad to the bone...
A lesson for us all...especially us old guys.
If you are over the age of 60, you should be considering: what legacy do you want to provide to your children? Do you want to die languishing in a socialist-run nursing home, or in battle, fighting for freedom?
Prepare according to your answer.
We walked a good bit of The Battle Road Trail at the park. I still can't describe how I felt while we walked it. But I remember it.
I was just thinking of Whittemore yesterday.
Do we still have that kind of Moxie or was it all washed out of us? Are we too fiercely law-abiding to risk bold action?
I know a few people who still feel the fire, but most of them are aging veterans, like Whittemore. The younger generation, not so much.
....sadly, I agree.... if we had another Pearl Harbor or another 9-11 attack, how many of our young folks would rally to defend our great country...? not many, especially since this modern generation is being taught that our country is evil, not worth living in, etc, etc....I would strongly suggest we all start learning conversational Chinese....
It is stories like this that made me proud and thankful of the years 1961-67 that I spent living in Massachusetts.
Henry Putnam, my 8x great grand father marched to Lexington with five of his sons, and was killed in action at the age of 70.
Whittemore is an amazing example, but those old folks weren’t too attached to comfort and safety and neither should we be.
Thanks for the excellent post Ransomnote. Samuel Whittemore’s willingness to fight and sacrifice all, even thought he lived another eighteen years, is a true example of what started this great nation.
I would strongly suggest we all start learning conversational Chinese …

Only for a tactical advantage, like learning German in 1940.
A better alternative, as offered by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, is to teach your children well. You don’t need a classroom nor a degree in Leftist propaganda to teach your offspring. You can impart important lessons to them in a bass boat, or a duck blind. Just spend time with them and let your wisdom rub off.

I believe you’re a few brain-dead hippies off.
That was Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Knew I should have verified first.
God bless you Nr. Whittemore. We need you and people like you more than everbefore
