To the extent that she did announce all this, it seems like it's part of a syndrome. Politician's kids, like Schwarzenegger's and Giuliani's, sometimes get back at their parents publicly like this. Reagan's kids did it too.

Both of Matilda's parents are pretty awful, so it's not surprising that she'd act out. What she's describing isn't that abnormal. It's the confusion a lot of young people go through. But she has all these terms that complicate things. Looking over all the messes that Kennedy (and Biden) kids get into, she may not be in that bad shape.
