I’ve never understood why they don’t have a simple rule stating spectators must be 3 ft away from the road. Just for both spectator and biker safety. People are literally on the road and nothing is done.

I agree. Not her fault. Safety negligence on the part of the organizers. Surprised it hasn’t happened before.
True. Especially when bicyclists are world renown for their courtesy and consideration for others.
That was my immediate reaction as well. Without that guidance, someone is bound to create a hazard.
Was that wrong? Should she not of done that? Was there a warning sign not to hold a large cardboard sign while turning your back to the riders?
I’ve been to to the TDF when Lance A was on run #3. almost EVERYONE is within INCHES of the cyclists at certain roads in France. The locals there have seen it so many times they know exactly when to get into cyclists faces and put up signs.
They’ll probably tell you it’s part and parcel of the Tour de France experience.
