I used to live in Lansing, MI, and 12,000 homes there had lead service lines from the main to the house water meter.

Lansing started a program to replace these lead service lines in 2004, and completed the project in 2016.

No, it’s not just the solder on copper pipes inside the home, it is also lead service lines from the main to the house.

Some iron water piping had a low percentage of lead in the alloy. As long as the Ph of the water is maintained in a non-corrosive range, no leaching of lead into the water will occur.

Flint went cheap with the buffering compounds, allowing the water acid/alkali balance to deviate from safe levels.
