I always thought the greatest threat from the Soviets was the possibility of internal threats to their power. Start a war to distract-similar to what the Argentine generals did in the Falklands. Russians leadership is pretty much European and they thought through the consequences. Having an experienced Bush '41 to oversee their nuclear disarmament was a fortunate plus.

The Norks are crazy. Chicoms want Taiwan. Are we prepared for SHTF time?

If the Chicoms invade the north does that mean Taiwan goes into DEFCON 1?

Do we invest in more of those missle take-down systems that cannot take out everything? Do we get the hell out and let the Asians deal with it amongst themselves?

Is there a ‘measured’ response to where we or the Sorks drop food all over the starving areas of the country to calm it down?(I’d label the food with American/Sork flags)

If we are smart (doubtful), we will stay out of Asia militarily, period.

China repossessing Taiwan is no business of ours.

There is zero possibility of US military involvement in a defense of Taiwan - and there hasn’t been for 40 years or more.

Not to worry. China Joe will protect us. According to his attendants, the Chinese love him and will do whatever he demands. See how simple life can be if you just believe?

It won’t collapse because the military won’t let it. Who do you think is behind Little Rocketman? Hint: it ain’t Russians this time.

Naa. Taiwan has had 75 years to prepare for China invasion. If they haven’t considered it, then they are dumber than a box of bricks. Taiwan knows China wont use nukes. Nothing to gain if everything is leveled. China also knows what an island state can do to them, ask Japan.

If China felt they had an upper hand, they would have moved on them by now. China may beat them by overwelming force due to endless Chinese troops, but not before Taiwan teaches them a lesson they well not recover anytime soon from.

No. We are busy fighting Climate Change and racism. That in what was once the Constitutional Republic of the United States of America is what is important now.

Whoever inherits the flaming bag of dog poo that is North Korea is going to end up worse off then they are now. China loses its buffer state, South Korea ends up with a money pit that will make East Germany look like the promised land. Either one will have inherited environmental toxicity, agricultural ruin, and industrial development at the level of the 1950's. The reason nobody invades Mordor is that nobody wants to.

In that sense North Korea has already collapsed. What happens when the current insane dynasty falls from power, though, might be manageable. It's going to depend on the people on scene, which we in the U.S. and the EU are not. I don't have much confidence in either the ability of the current State Department to identify the alternatives or the willingness of the rest of the current government to pursue the one most in the interest of the American public. U.S. foreign policy is for sale, run by petty tyrants, powermongers, and avaricious fools.

If it was revealed that the regime in North Korea had collapsed, my expectation at this point is that - before South Korea and/or the U.S. could stop it - China would move on the ground to occupy the north WITH the cooperation of the top North military commanders. That will be it, and South Korea especially will have to recalculate much of its foreign policy.
