Without a mother, or wet nurse, I don't see how an infant could survive the most primitive of all survival scenarios. It seems more likely that he was 2-4 years old at the time he and his father fled, then lived another 40 years in the jungle which would mean he emerged from the jungle in 1972+40 = 2012 as a 42-44 year old man which would make him 46-48 years old at the time of the article and 51-53 years old today.
