I agree, and I state this very thing from time to time.
I met someone from the former Soviet Union, and he told me about how his grandfather would water his garden, except for one patch, where he poured oil. He buried some WW2-era full-autos, pistols, and combat rifles.
Yet the Soviet Union persisted until it collapsed under its own weight.
Buried weapons are meaningless.
