Nobody did. The reason they waited so long to try another is that one was such a dud.
They had all the time in the world to come up with a good script and that was a terrible one. I could have come up with a better idea. Lots of people could have. Whatever Spielberg once had creatively he doesn’t anymore, he’s burned out and so is Lucas.
