“My father taught music there in the mid-1950’s and my mother taught English there from the mid-sixties to the mid-eighties. I even substitute-taught there for a while.”

They had some pretty good athletic teams during the 1960s and 1970s. We had a wrestling match there in 1971 and we lost all but one match.

El Rancho High School's football team under coach Ernie Johnson was fabulous. In 1966, they were arguably the best high school football team in the whole USA. On October 28 of that year, they beat my Whittier High School Cardinals 48-0 despite the fact that Whittier's quarterback was Bob Chandler, a future USC Trojans and NFL star.

Pretty good ? In the 60’s El Rancho football team was considered one of the best high school football teams in the nation... consistently
