The book that chronicled these atrocities was “FLYBOYS” if memory serves. Allied pilots who were shot down and captured were imprisoned of course. Several of those prison camps had commandants who were full of the Bushido BS that filled the adherents with a superiority complex. In many cases, the commandant would select a prisoner, have him murdered, and eat the prisoner’s liver. They thought this demonstrated Japanese superiority. GHW Bush was shot down and taken to one of those prisons. “Fortunately”, he was not one of those victims....depending how you viewed his administration; not to mention his son’s.
I don’t think he was captured
You got the book title right.
“Flyboys” Highly recommended.
Pilot GHWB had to ditch into the sea. He was rescued by a USN sub...Japs never grabbed him.
He was not - the Navy rescued him in time - but some other fliers in his patrol were.
Given what hes alleged to have helped do to other people in his past
I’m on the fence about his liver being eaten.
Baloney. His recovery and return to a U.S. vessel was all filmed.
Bush was shot down but not captured.. he was rescue by by a US submarine
#2. Bush was not captured. As I recall from the book, he was rescued by a flying boat. His gunner was KIA.
Also many US captured pilots were either shot on the spot or reportedly put in chains tied to cement blocks, etc and thrown off of Jap ships or subs.
Never apologize for Hiroshima or Nagasaki.
My father got his 3rd Purple Heart on Iwo. Payback’s a bitch and it was our twin bitches who ended the war and actually saved a potential million military and civilian lives, including friends of mine who were sailing towards Japan for the final invasion.
Bush the Elder was shot down while flying a Grumman TBF Avenger.
He was rescued by the submarine U.S.S. Finback.
