These mouthbreathers probably thought it was the Confederate Flag...it is red, white, and blue and has a star on it, after all.
I got beaten once when I was in the USN back in the Seventies, because they took issue with my squadron ball cap for the VA-46 “Clansmen”.
I guess it would have been useless to yell “You idiots! I am with the CLANSMEN, not the KLANSMEN!”
Oddly enough, it wasn’t until some 40 years later when it hit me that when when one of them kicked me from behind before the festivities started and I asked why he did that, he said “He didn’t like my hat”.
I never understood, much like Steve Martin’s character in “The Jerk” when a sniper is trying to shoot him but hits the stacked oil cans and he exclaims “Hey! Someone doesn’t like these oil cans!”

You assume they think. They don’t. They hate. There is 5% of this country looking for a reason to kill, steal, loot, ... anything but work and do right. The cops know who they are. The DS knows who they are. The politicians are trying their best to grow the numbers to 15 %. Then the real fun begins.
