She knows that calling out the real problem will get her in trouble with her base. On the other hand, she knows that she will get cheers from her base, and sympathetic nods from Libs, for playing the R card. So from a political perspective, it’s a “wise” strategy for her. The only problem is that, from a responsible governance perspective, it’s a disaster.

The addiction paradigms hardest to extinguish are where short term choices feel great but the long term outcome is a disaster... Alcoholism, drug addiction and Chicago political choices fall into this category ...

Short-term think is very pervasive, even in many organizations that should know better. While it’s easy to see the “train wreck” coming, you can’t prove it. And meanwhile, you look like a fool if you dismiss the short term numbers (which are typically excellent because you’re eating your own seed corn). The game is for the boss to move on before the train wreck actually occurs — leaving another poor schlub to hold the bag.
