Why would anyone vaccinate their children?

My parents know a guy who grew up in India before the polio vaccine made it over there. He caught polio and was permanently crippled by it. But by golly he didn't end up autistic or whatever else the anti-vaxxers claim is caused by vaccines. You don't have to take my word for it either. Just go to any cemetery and note the number of children's graves before 1950 compared to children's graves in the 1990's. I can understand not wanting to take an experimental vaccine, but for the established vaccines like polio a better question would be "Why would anyone NOT vaccinate their children?"
