Take a popular protest song and make it upbeat. Put up there somebody that's as smooth and hip as they come. Just look at how he improvises and puts his own stamp on it. Removing the mike from the stand as his voice rises-3 things at once-totally undistracted. That was Obama. Both tapped into an American yearning for things upbeat as we are an upbeat people. It's just not our style. We do not pretend to be messiahs. Check it out and go to work on an answer.

I am wondering how you think your musings are some sort of an epiphany? How many people were influenced by this Dylan song sung by Sam Cooke? How much do you think Sam Cooke influenced Obama? How much do you think Obama's hand gestures and upward facing smiles influenced voters instead of his bald-faced lies, socialist salami slicing and obfuscations?
I don't think Obama's shtick started with a popular protest song upbeat or not.
You are mistaken. I see Sam Cooke in Obama. Cooke was too cool. No mention of Obama getting his inspiration from him. Most people don’t know who Cooke was. He wasn’t Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. Unthreatening and as Biden would say clean/articulate. If you can’t see that we’re in trouble and don’t even know it.
I thank you for your comment. Not too many responses on this post and I’m not ready to say I’m wrong on it. Obama won twice-secret sauce.

And who said he was a Christian?
Doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
I would assume that those who perform Christian gospel music are Christians.
Not a very good assumption. It’s show biz like any other kind of show biz.
Why are you so insistent on question Sam Cooke’s religious views?
