Its the primary constituent of almost all shampoos. Has been for decades. So condidering the millions of people who have been using it several times a week wouldn't we see bazillion cases of scalp cancer?

I said it causes cancer I THINK. Didn’t look it up. So I poked around a bit. Cancer is suspected but not proven. SLS does cause skin irritation if you have sensutitive skin, strips natural oils from skin and hair, leaving them dry, and may contribute to cell damage after long term accumulation.
If you have thin, dry or dyed hair, it is not recommended. SLS can dull hair dye, and will make dry skin and hair drier.
In higher concentrations over 1%, it can irritate the skin and may cause eye damage. Some household cleaners contain 10 to 30%. Probably why they recommend gloves.
