During the hurricane seasons of 2004 & 2005, with power knocked out for months across wide areas, many folks, mostly elderly, had to leave. In mid-August, they couldn't breathe. Literally.
I had a friend who had just moved to Port Charlotte a year before. He chose to stay, even with two hurricanes busting up his house within a three week period. But about a month in, the humidity turned everything in the house black with mold in a matter of days. It was remarkable. I helped him clean up and salvage what we could, and he went back north.
