Two things I miss these days, Scientific American, and Readers Digest, both casualties of the culture war.
The Readers Digest was my Dad’s and Grand Dad’s only magazine they read. They really liked the RD’s books condensed/shortened and published as several condensed books in one.

I used to read both Scientific American and Readers Digest cover to cover every month, and gave gift subscriptions. Now I cannot stand either one. And I am not the one who changed.

I quit reading SA when they fired Forrest Mims for being an active Christian who contributed to his Church
You might recall he did the Amateur Scientist segment way back in the day

"I seem to recall when I first joined FR almost 20 years ago that this magazine had fallen already. " That was about it for me too.

ACS and AAAS have also veered to the left. I watched it happen. I quit AAAS shortly after their staff began shilling "Women's Mathematics". SA had already gone down the tubes at that point. The Left ruins everything it touches.

You are not by yourself.
Looking back, SA and RD were our Kindles which enabled us to read, learn and enjoy things from the comfort of our homes. We didn’t have to go to libraries or book stores. We received them magically in our mail.
Like the Sears and JC Penney’s catalogs were our Grand mother’s/mother’s Amazon’s to order from and get by mail, pickup in the local store or however.

Smithsonian and Audubon have gone down the same trash wokeness path. Not worth reading.

"I quit reading it back in 2001 when they veered left." I quit back in the early 1990's... When the stink of philosophical infestation began to surface...
By 2001, it was, unapologetically, gone, gone, gone...

Same here. used to enjoy the articles on so many subjects but then they all seemed to be tilted to the left and just go worse.

The APS has gone over the edge into global warming, LGBTQetc, quantitative critical race theory, and identifying "white privilege." The ANS has its "Nuclear Pride LGBT Organization."
If there's a new chemical element discovered during "gay pride" month, it will probably be named sodomium.

Like every other venerable institution in this country, SciAm has been poisoned by Leftist politics.

I canceled my subscription several years ago, when I noticed, it was nothing but climate change this, climate change that. With no counter arguments. Along with the other articles, that, did nothing but tow the leftist lines.
