For reasons I never found out, one of my rescue Dobes, Merlin, would do a neck-snapping, super speedy head tilt if somebody said “cocaine”.
She was running loose for 3 months before animal control caught her and was a nightmare of what appeared to be skin infections and possible cigarette burns.
The shelter manager asked where I’d “gotten the beautiful Dobe” when I took her for a visit, a month later.
She had gone from sun-burned rust to a deep, glossy chocolate brown and was a thing of great beauty.
But that weird reaction, though....o_O
Loose for 3 months and cigarette burns... horrible.
One of ours was a discarded GSD accompanied by a gorgeous Dobe. No doubt the throw-aways of abusive breeders.
Good that Merlin is with you now.
