At least, that's my take. I think this speech was in part a lot of trolling.
Before people whine about white people owning slaves in the past, whine about black people owning slaves right now. There is still slavery in Africa today.
Let’s dissolve the African nations that captured blacks and sold them into slavery.
While we are at it, let’s dissolve the CURRECT nations in Africa who till practice slavery.
We the People are the slaves today.
Dissolve the Union.
Queen Elizabeth I and her government are long dead, thus I don’t see any reason for it to be dissolved. Also that happened upon her death in 1603.
the first slave owner in the US was a black; Indian tribes regularly raided for slaves - took whites blacks and other Indians. US Indian tribes should disband because they were slavers!
Britain was, to their credit, the first country on the planet to completely outlaw slavery and to actively fight against it.
What are some good references to show people about this?
That was decades later after they forced it on us.
Sacajewa - a Shoshone, the Lewis & Clark guide was captured in a raid and enslaved by the Crow (technically the Hidatsa - a Siouan people today consideed to be predecessors of the modern Crow.). Toussaint Charbonneau - her husband, purchased or won the Shoshone girl Sacagawea (Bird Woman) from the Crow (Hidatsa). The Crow (Hidatsa) had captured Sacagawea on one of their annual raiding and hunting parties to the west. I don’t think the Crow did these raids on other Indians just to take in the sights ! They did to express power and to take captives. I am also sure the weren’t the only tribes who did this.
whats Google?
All right. Well, if you tell someone “There are more slaves living in the world today than at any point in history, and it’s not white people that are doing it”, they might not listen to you. It’s not because they don’t believe you, it’s because they don’t care.
Isnt the narrative that slavery didn’t exist until America made it our founding policy?
Should the British Government be dissolved because they authorized slavery?
Should the Democrat Party be dissolved because they authorized slavery?
I think they won’t believe it.
Denial and disbelief are different things. One is caused by a willful lack of information, the other by a temporary one. There is no greater ignorance than by choice.
It is the narrative.
It would be easy to overcome this narrative though if more people embraced American history instead of embracing modernity so strongly.
“That was decades later after they forced it on us.”
The history books are full of incidents where soldiers, in red coats with bayonets, prodded poor defenseless colonists to bidding on slaves for sale at the markets in Boston, Philadelphia, Raleigh or Charleston.
