I agree the way Florida and Texas politicians reversed course and began attacking the cruise industry in this way is shameful. These complicated enough international businesses without US politicians and bureaucrats and their grandstanding nonsense.
Cruise lines require a CDC certification to operate in US waters. I suppose they could go to court, wait a few years and see what they have left. Operate at much lower capacity outside of the US which some are doing. And they are being treated differently than other modes of transportation. Some states have had mask requirements over the last year, others haven't. Airline and buss passengers are required to wear a mask irrespective of the states they're traveling between. This is a state vs federal government spitting match with the cruise lines caught betwee.
if the cruise line industry doesn’t want to adhere to desantis’s executive orders they’re free to take their business elsewhere...
I agree. And as transportation companies they’re clearly under the purview of the Federal government. Though I’ve nothing to base it on I’ve felt the CDC restrictions, the lines should never have been shut down this long, were de facto punishment for Florida, Texas and Alaska, red states. A shame Florida and Texas took this position. Embarking on a cruise in one state on a international/interstate voyage is quite different than going into a restaurant or concert. If either state were to pass a law banning a mask requirement, don’t think for a minute airlines and bus lines would comply. A lot of economic damage for nothing.
Good, I don’t want to be on a cruise with anxiety ridden tards who shed their poison fake vax on me.
Except the left (as usual) is using corporations/big businesses to do their dirty work. DeSantis and Abbott see this for what it is...thankfully.
If this was only about “safety” they’d include those with Covid antibodies but of course they don’t.
Wrong - not if they want to sail in/out of Florida ports. Or pay 5,000 USD penalty each time they ask.
Cruise lines are free not to use Florida ports.
Thank God for the free market. Freedom means letting people do as they choose and take the consequences. What I don’t see is how the hell it is any business of any government entity if a cruise line (or any other entity) requires, prohibits, or just doesn’t give a damn about *either* of our opinions and decisions.
I wouldn’t want to spend good money on a cruise that has Marxists at the helm regardless of my vax status.
There’s literally hundreds of places where these types can blow snot bubbles, bite pillows and wet themselves without having to board a ship........
It’s the Federal Government that is the problem. Check temperatures on boarding, keep the ship clean, and have COVID therapeutics ready and available.
No healthy person under 65 was dying of COVID before the vaccine. No one under 25 died in the whole state of Florida. The COVID therapeutics are working great if used early. With therapeutics the death rate is no more than the common flu. If you have a compromised immune stay home.
If temperature is check, warning against non-healthy people (let them make the choice), more outdoor activities, and cleaner ships they would be safer than ever before.
Everyone’s pearl clutching because of the fear the mainstream media has spread. I wonder what the true death total is (dying with COVID vs dying because of COVID)?
Time for the Great Covid swindle to end.
Florida should up it to over $50,000.
Exactly
I know that in my 24 year military career and 17 years contracting in combat zones I have likely had more vaccinations than anybody I know. I am not an antivaxer but I am anti companies mandating customers undergo experimental mRNA gene therapies.
Mandating experimental gene therapies that are not approved by the FDA is a gray area - one that may result in long-term public hostility and angry boycotts of the company's products. Management had better think very carefully about choosing the business of Karens over that of the COVID-recovered who do not need vaccines.
“If you are vaccinated, what are you worried about?”
“Worried that the anti-vaxxer will pick up a case of covid in port and bring it back to the ship. Infects a few other random anti-vaxxers, who end up in the infirmary, and suddenly the remainder of the cruise is cancelled and none of the surrounding countries will allow the ship to dock, as happened in March 2020.
I’m vaccinated so I’m not worried about catching or spreading the virus - but all it takes is one case among the non-vaccinated for the cruise to become hell at sea.”
FYI it is not a guarantee. From the Mayo Clinic:
“Can I still get COVID-19 after I’m vaccinated?
COVID-19 vaccination will protect most people from getting sick.
A very small percentage of fully vaccinated people will still get COVID-19 if they are exposed to the COVID-19 virus. These are called vaccine breakthrough cases. Some people might not experience any symptoms and some people could become sick due to COVID-19.”
Sure. Of course they need to think carefully. And it may well vary by what your target audience is; I mean a gun store in Texas that had this requirement for their employees, or a shooting range for customers would be idiotic; a yoga studio in Marin California not so much. My point is that the free market will sort it out; cruise line A requires vaccination, cruise line B doesn’t, but the state or feds should have nothing to do with it.
I’m vaxxed, I don’t really give a crap about someone unvaxxed; I had the damned Covid in January of ‘20, too. But these idiot governers are just as bad as the CDC in telling businesses what to do or not do.
