The long time city comptroller of Dixon, Illinois, Rita Crundwell, had been embezzling for almost 30 years. She took a three month vacation, and the city clerk filled in for her. The clerk realized something was wrong with the books and reported it to the mayor. Crundwell is now serving 20 years.
Not surprised....never wise to keep the same people handing revenue for long. Temptation can override trust in a heartbeat and often does.
BTW....In my hometown growing up VP of our local bank was arrested for embezzeling money from the bank. I wondered why his wife stopped calling me to babysit their kids!
