To limit pollution and traffic congestion in Beijing, officials in 2011 imposed a citywide restriction on the number of automobiles residents can purchase annually. That policy has helped limit car sales and emissions. But the system has a loophole: Beijing residents have been going elsewhere in China to purchase cars, then bringing them home.
As a new study co-authored by MIT scholars finds, this policy "leakage" reduces the intended impact of the car-restriction system by about 35 percent. So, while Beijing adds fewer new cars per year than it once did, and its aggressive policy action has had an impact, the program also provides a case study for experts about the challenges of creative environmental and transportation policy in any setting.
One key point is the need for regional coordination in these areas, observes MIT professor Jinhua Zhao, co-author of a new paper detailing the study. Another issue is the continued need for urban design that is not automobile-centered, globally.

A good American, I’m sure.
Nice to know even commie slaves can think for themselves and find loopholes. Probably mostly the underground Christians.
Hope nobody dies over this.
Democrats do like the idea of mere proles owning cars. They would expect the freedom to drive them, ANYWHERE!
This isn’t exactly Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, but...The first thing a family in a developing nation buys is a refrigerator. The second, today, is a cell phone. The third is a car. Because of China’s demographic collapse, due to the one child policy, they are rapidly aging out. The big domestic consumer boom, which was real, is past. One indicator of that is the dramatic year on year reduction in new car sales. This is the fifth year of declining domestic car sales. The idea that China would do anything to reduce an already failing consumer product, especially one that they wanted as a big boost of consumer sales...pretty amazing.
I know. It doesn't make sense.
The people who the Democrats want to move into the suburbs are the Section 8 tenants, the Affordable Housing clients, and the homeless.
The Democrat intention is to destroy the suburbs as a safe refuge for the middle class. Restricting personal transportation (cars) will complete the destruction.
Of course they believe their own gated communities will remain undisturbed.
Their final solution is depopulation. Which is what the whole “Climate” hoax is all about. Club of Rome. Maurice Strong.
Reducing cars is just one finger on that Claw of Sauron.
Thanks! I had never heard of Club of Rome. Looked them up, sounds demonic to me.
Depopulation,,,
Definitely Demonic.
