Amen. The defeatists contribute nothing to the cause, but when victory inevitably arrives they’ll be there wanting to share in its spoils. It’s not that they’re necessarily wrong in their cynicism, but that they refuse to even join the fight against evil because of that cynicism. It becomes an excuse for not risking anything to fight. See my tag line for Edmund Burke’s famous quote about this phenomenon.
Remember, many of these same people said, “We’re never going to get to the truth of the lab-engineered origin of the virus. No one will be held accountable anyway….blah….blah…blah.” Now look where we suddenly are on that topic, yet as recently as a few weeks ago the usual Eeyores were writing off positive stories on it as well.
I shudder to think what would have happened if the defeatists had been in charge of the D-Day landings. They probably would have gotten back on the landing craft and sailed away. “The Germans are too dug in”…”They have the cliffs and we’ll never make it up there without being shot to pieces”…”This will be just like Dunkirk”… etc.
