So would you feel safe on one?

I have flown on the 737Max several times since their return to operation. Yes I feel safe. More importantly I am safe.
Pilots and flight attendants have families too. If they feel safe, I feel safe.

I didn’t feel safe with the initial AI for pitch control but Boeing has been (forced) to add pilot training and refine the software.

With those fixes in place the danger of these particular planes is about the same as any other.

Early DC-10s had engines that just fell off!
737s had a fatal rudder defect after their initial release that caused several spectacular crashes.
Engine fan jets have torn apart from engines and sliced into the fuselage like saw blades.
Airbuses had autopilots that would crash planes.
Airplane tops have ripped off in flight!
I’m an engineer by trade. I’m well aware of all these issues when flying!
The fact of the matter is that all of these incidents are rare when you consider that everyday - thousands of flight occur worldwide without incident and issues that do occur are thoroughly investigated and new processes are put in place so that issue and related ones don’t happen again.
