A few years ago Boeing management decided they were too beholden to their engineers and should focus on finances.
To do this they moved their headquarters from the production facilities in Washington to be near the banks and lawyers in Chicago.
That seems to have been one of the worst business decisions of the century.
Correct! Almost 21 years at Boeing, I gave up on them and left, I could walk down the street and knock on the door of “Mahogany row”, as could any employee. When they made the move, the Company became isolated from the Corporation HQ.
Bad decision. Bean counters don’t make the world’s best aircraft.
Putting the bean counting MBAs in charge of a business is the fastest way to ruin it.
