You're off an order of magnitude. Per Worldometers.info, there have been 34,210,782 cases of COVID-19 in the US and 612,366 deaths. A death rate of 1.79%.
Just to clarify, that 34 million number is those that tested positively, not those who have had the disease. The 612 thousand are those who died with, not necessarily from COVID-19.
My friends in medical care have shared with me how everyone who entered the hospital, for whatever reason, were tested for COVID-19 and if they died, whether or not they died from COVID-19, they were a COVID-19 death. The government was giving the hospital as much as $35K per patient if the patient did not have private health insurance and died of/with COVID-19.
All that to say the stats are screwy.
