Republican Javier Villalobos flips this seat from Blue to Red in an 85% Hispanic city. Continuing the Republican trend in the RGV of Texas started by Trump
Except President Trump actually INCREASED his share of Latino and black votes in 2020.
But Democrats used mail-in ballots to create a vote for every registered voter that do not turn out at the polls.
Do you notice that they do not talk about turnout rates by party?
Democratic turnout rates are near 100% (an impossibility) because they made sure every registered voter cast a ballot even if they did not show up to vote.
Amen.
MCALLEN (KVEO) — The city of McAllen has a new mayor.
Javier Villalobos defeated Veronica Whitacre in the June 5 runoff election to win the position as McAllen mayor.
Villalobos won the election with 4,744 votes to Whitacre’s 4,538 votes. Villalobos won with 51.11 percent of the election total.
The new mayor had served as commissioner of McAllen’s district one since 2018.
The two candidates garnered the most votes in the initial city election in May.
Villalobos’s term will last four years.
Elections were also held for three city commissioner races in McAllen.
Tony Aguirre will take over the position of District 1 commissioner after defeating Lucia Thompson with 1,625 votes to 1,184 votes.
Omar Quintanilla retained his position as District 3 commissioner after defeating Delma Tamez with 655 votes to 397 votes.
Jose “Pepe” Cabeza de Vaca retained his position as District 6 commissioner after defeating Larry Esparza with 1,013 votes to 804 votes.

“Javier Villalobos defeated Veronica Whitacre”
Having an Hispanic last name, and running against someone with an Anglo last name, may have been enough to account for the slim margin of victory.
But those overwhelmingly Democratic Party leaning Counties along the border in South Texas did show a very large shift toward Trump in the 2020 election (i.e. Biden won by a dramatically lower margin than usual for the Dems)

Welcome to FR. No comment on your thread? No replies? I hope you won’t be a “Hit and Run” poster.
I mentioned that
I mentioned that
Trump did wel amongst the tejano vote and in Florida
No question of that...this encapsulates it all very well...
Yes they do. Unless it’s a Republican caught in a scandal. Then its plastered all over the story
From what I read he campaigned as a conservative. Hes a former chairman of the Hidalgo County GOP. He was supported by the local MAGA elements on Facebook. He greeted Trump at the airport when he visited during his presidency.
I pray you are right.
What EXACTLY is “wrong” with people choosing what is best for themselves and their family? Hell! Isn’t that what democratic principles are about?
Rd later.
