The African tribes captured the slaves and sold them, the Spaniards and Portuguese who loaded them on ships and sold them, the USBritish merchants (north and south) who bought them and resold them to the southern plantations. -------------- Everyone wants to claim that the United States was the problem with the institution of slavery. The institution of slavery was brought to North America by the British. It was these same British who became US citizens that continued the institution of slavery. Technically Slavery was in the United States from 1776 to 1863 when Lincoln freed the slaves through the Emancipation Declaration. That means that institution of slavery was in the United States for 103 years. African Slaves were traded for almost 400 years. People really need to quit saying that Slavery started with the United States.
