Never let a wedding go to waste.
This is so weird. Neither the groom nor the sister were given time to grieve.

Different societies treat death differently, and the amount of death is probably directly proportional to the amount of grieving.
If there is death all around you constantly, and the process is a very different fashion compared to the Cadillac fashion of the United States, death becomes more of a matter of course, a part of life, rather than a devastating event.

This is so weird. Neither the groom nor the sister were given time to grieve. It may have been an arranged marriage in which the bride and groom had never met, but were chosen for each other via negotiations between two families, with a dowry paid by the bride's family to the groom. Therefore a sister could step in due to this arranged set-up.

Not quite the same, but in The Philadelphia Story, Katherine Hepburn is about to be married to a nouveau riche dork who dumps her at the last moment, so Cary Grant (her ex) just happens to be there and marries her instead.
