PHILADELPHIA -- The NFL on Wednesday pledged to halt the use of "race-norming" -- which assumed Black players started out with lower cognitive functioning -- in the $1 billion settlement of brain injury claims and to review past scores for any potential race bias.
The practice had made it harder for Black players to show a deficit and qualify for an award. The standards were designed in medicine in the 1990s in hopes of offering more appropriate treatment to dementia patients, but critics faulted the way they were used to assess legal damages in the NFL case.

They have changed the definition of race norming.
In the 1990s, race norming was used on competitive employment exams - like for the Post Office - to allocate a certain percentage of jobs to minorities and women.
Job allocation was NOT based on the top scores on the test - usually 100% Asians and whites, and mostly males.
It was based on the top scores for each specific GROUP.
In 1990, race norming meant Racial and Gender Quotas!
I can't believe that was ever a policy. Shows you where the real racists hide.
The NFL deserves every bad thing that happens to it.
NFL you got a lot of ‘splaining to do.
The NFL gives all the players the Wonderlic test. That would provide an individual baseline.
Perhaps the NFL knows that the average black Wonderlic score is less than the average white score, but there are surely some black players who scored higher than some white players.
Go by the individual score from past records.
There is the issue of players trying to game the system by underperforming now.;
